Mar Bisho Feast
Who is Mar Bisho
'Mar' is Assyrian for Saint
Mar Bisho (also known as "Anba Pishoi") was born in year 32 A.D.
He was chosen at a very young age by the Lord Jesus to serve Him. As young Bisho grew, everyone around him noticed his desire to pray and speak to the Lord.
As a young man, he became a monk. Soon after, Mar Bisho had his first visit with the Lord when He revealed Himself to Mar Bisho while Mar Bisho was washing the feet of an old monk. The Lord told him "I am Jesus Christ. I came to visit and bless you."
Mar Bisho had his second visit with the Lord while going up the mountain with other monks hoping for a visit from the Lord. Sitting on the side of the road was an old man who asked the monks to take him with them. Yet each one thought that helping him would be a waste of time. Mar Bisho trailed behind. The old man asked him for help, and without hesitation Mar Bisho helped him up. Mar Bisho had to carry him on his shoulder because he couldn't walk, and he didn't leave the man alone. Suddenly the old man's weight increased until Mar Bisho could no longer carry him. As Mar Bisho turned to speak to the man, his face changed and to his surprise it was the face of Jesus Christ.
When it was time for Jesus to go, He blessed Mar Bisho and asked him to tell the monks to help the needy - "When they help the needy, they help me."
Mar Bisho Feast is celebrated every year to commemorate Mar Bisho and his legacy.
